Meet Patrice Coke
Hello! I am a children’s book author from Wichita, Kansas. I was raised in a small town and am the youngest of six.
As a mother of four, a grandmother of nine, and a teacher, I have seen the impact reading to a child at an early age can have. Having worked with children, I know the importance of not only reading but also imagination. I remember my childhood imaginary adventures. Because of that imagination, I started creating stories at a young age.
I also love to travel, and many of the little critters and animals I have seen along the way spark a story! (My husband and sisters can attest to that.) Hence, my new love of writing for children. I constantly draw inspiration and ideas from my travels and experiences for my writing.
We are a very close-knit family, and my grandchildren always inspire me. I write my books with them in mind and involve them in the creative process whenever possible.

My illustrator and I were interviewed on KAKE Channel 10 News, a local TV station, in Wichita, Kansas, on July 24, 2026. It was a great opportunity to get our book, “A Birthday Surprise In Triple Oaks Forest,” introduced to a wider audience.
Along with cold calls, I emailed KAKE and gave them a little background about myself, my illustrator, and what our children’s book was about. I asked if they would be interested in doing an interview with us. Much to my surprise, I heard back from one of the producers of their morning shows within about 30 minutes. She said they would love to have us and sent me some dates to choose from, along with a form to be filled out and submitted with various questions. I was also asked to submit some illustrations, the cover of the book, my logo, and website information. We were featured on their morning show.
We had never been interviewed at a TV station before! We were a little nervous and did not quite know what to expect, although I had a bit of an idea of the questions the anchor would be asking. I practiced all week, and I thought the interview went well. It was a great experience, well worth emailing them, and I would certainly do it again. It was definitely out of our comfort zones, but it was well worth the publicity. I will be forever grateful for the opportunity.
